Ethos
As a teenager on our small family farm I was interested in organic farming. It was nearly five decades later that the interest manifested itself, with the support of Margaret.
I started a veggie patch 2022 with the objective of growing healthy food using a combination of organics, biodynamics, permaculture (hügelkultur beds), holistic management principles and intuition. At the same time our landlord mentioned that she and a friend made their own soaps. I was very interested and did some online research, then I came across a site that had videos on how to make tallow soaps and the benefits of tallow soaps. Making soap with just three ingredients tallow, water & lye (caustic agent). Old fashioned soap, Wow! how cool, how retro, it ticked all the boxes for me just three ingredients, making use of a by product (beef fat) that goes to landfill, it last for ages and is very good for your skin, and good brain food etc.
The journey really started in earnest when we started attending the Newcastle Farmers Market at the showgrounds, selling veggies and soaps. The veggie growing took its toll on my body, resulting in fewer veggies and more soaps.
Margaret & I love selling our products at markets, our interactions, being able to serve and listen to customers, valuing their feedback and adapting to their needs.
